Xiaowei Ren is an independent creator currently studying on the Participatory, Community and Activist MA programme at London Contemporary Dance School. She holds an MA in Dance from the University of Roehampton. She has performed in Yvonne Rainer's Trio A/Chair/Pillow at the Beijing Inside-Out Art Museum, and has participated in performances and study at the Vienna International Dance Festival and the UK's Voila! Europe Festival. Her solo work Spiral premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and received a Recommended Show from FringeReview. Influenced by postmodern dance and improvisational practices, her creative work starts from everyday physical language and personal experience, exploring interactions between the body and environment, objects, and individual history. She investigates how the body is shaped by training, social norms, and identity expectations, and how individuals can discover their own physical language and modes of expression.
